From Glove Specialist to Accessory Brand

What distinguished the Munich family business and royal court supplier back then is still the credo of the ROECKL brand today, over 180 years later - to manufacture products of excellent quality and elegance.

  • Quality & Elegance
In these fast-moving times, ROECKL has been focusing on traditional craftsmanship and natural materials since 1839, and celebrated its 180th anniversary in 2019. What already distinguished ROECKL as a royal supplier to the court - creating products of excellent quality and elegance. Today, more than 180 years later and in the sixth generation, this credo is the best prerequisite for products from the traditional ROECKL company to become lasting favorites.

Inspired by the various eras of the company's history, elegant accessories were created for the great anniversary of the traditional ROECKL brand that have their finger on the pulse of time and yet are enduring. Even today, the ROECKL archive is an inexhaustible source for current collections that combine the highest craftsmanship with timeless elegance.

  • 1839 Founding
A family with a vision: the manufacturing of the finest and most precisely fitting gloves. Even back then, the Roeckl family focused on the craftsmanship and processing of high-quality leather. It is still the same core values that make the company so successful today. When Jakob Roeckl was granted a licence to manufacture leather gloves in 1839, a history of tradition began that is characterised by the unique symbiosis of tradition and innovative development.
  • 1867 Social Engagement Since The 2nd Generation
The high-quality workmanship of the Roeckl gloves becomes very popular abroad. As a result, Christian Roeckl pushes the wholesale distribution of leather gloves, especially to England and America. It is at this time that Christian Roeckl (as a young entrepreneur) acknowledges the importance of his employees. By anticipating Bismarck's social legislation, Christian Roeckl creates a healthy and friendly working environment, which includes not only a company pension scheme for illness and old age but also built the new production building in 1871. The 100-metre-long building is characterised by its high and bright working spaces with ideal lighting conditions, dormitories, dining room and kitchen. Soon after its construction it is referred to as the "Roeckl palace" by the people of Munich.

Quality is in demand in the upper classes. Word quickly spreads about the Roeckl family's high level of manufacturing skill and love of craftsmanship, so the next milestone in the company's history can be celebrated: in 1893 ROECKL is appointed as a Royal Bavarian Court supplier. Customers beyond the borders of the country included King Ludwig II of Bavaria and Empress Sisi. As a supplier to the court, Heinrich Anton Roeckl continues to establish the company. With around 1,000 employees, the company soon became the second largest employer in Munich.
  • 1914 to 1945 The Two Great World Wars
The two world wars are deep cuts in the company's history. Employees are drafted, leather is used for war purposes, exports collapse. Parts of the factory and almost all the shops are destroyed.
